Organic Market Brief

Every weekday afternoon: the main moves in grains and oilseeds, organic prices and logistics out of Ukraine, briefly put into context for buyers.

We upload the new edition every weekday in the afternoon. Until then, you will find the most recent edition here.

The market brief is the public short version of our daily market report. Exchange prices are closing prices of the nearest contract in EUR/t; organic prices come from the weekly Granaria Milano quotations. Indicative market information, not an offer.

Latest edition

Ukraine has exported almost 30% less grain than a year ago. More wagons are crossing the western borders, but the railway is short of locomotives.

Exchange prices, EUR/t

  • Wheat 226.75 −0.25 Euronext · Dec 26
  • Corn 306.00 −2.75 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Rapeseed 550.25 −3.25 Euronext · Feb 27
  • Soybeans 401.46 −0.74 CBOT · Nov 26

Markets: Futures ended the week slightly lower. Euronext wheat held near €227/t (Dec) after US weekly wheat export sales came in at about 847,000 t, well above expectations. Rapeseed lost €3 to about €550/t (Feb). Soybeans stay under pressure: China's state reserve offered 512,000 t of imported beans and sold only about 172,000 t.

Ukraine: Grain and pulse exports since July reached 6.5 Mt against 9.2 Mt last season, with October at only 1.3 Mt. Rail handovers at the western borders rose to 337 wagons a day in October, 57 more than in September. At the same time 605 locomotives have been damaged, and the daily rent for grain wagons goes up by 400 UAH to 3,771 UAH in November.

Organic: The Bologna list today shows soft wheat at €335 to 345/t, feed corn at €350 to 365/t and soybeans at €780 to 800/t, in line with the firmer Milan quotes from Tuesday.

What it means for buyers: Rail out of Ukraine is moving more volume but costs more from November, so book wagons and loading slots early and keep some slack in delivery dates.

Russian grain may move out of the Azov Sea again and wheat slipped. Ukraine, by contrast, ships less than half of what it needs to export.

Exchange prices, EUR/t

  • Wheat 225.25 −1.75 Euronext · Dec 26
  • Corn 307.00 +19.00 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Rapeseed 515.00 −13.25 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Soybeans 413.71 +2.64 CBOT · Oct 26

Markets: Euronext wheat eased €1.75 to about €225/t (Dec) on reports that Russia again lets grain vessels leave the Azov Sea, with permits until 15 November. Kyiv has not confirmed this. Rapeseed fell more than €13 to €515/t (Nov), while CBOT soybeans firmed to about €414/t.

Ukraine: The agriculture ministry says regular exports through the deep-water ports have practically stopped since August. Alternative routes covered only 47% of the required volume in the first 27 days of October. On 23 October about 20,700 rail wagons were waiting at the western borders for an average of 19 days.

Organic: Milan moved up across the board. Soft wheat gained €5 to €330 to 360/t, corn €10 to €343 to 383/t and feed soybeans €20 to €790 to 810/t.

What it means for buyers: Lower conventional futures are not reaching organic prices, so cover nearby needs now and allow extra transit time for anything moving by rail out of Ukraine.

Rapeseed lost almost €9/t in Paris while wheat edged up. In Ukraine, only 29% of the corn area has been harvested so far.

Exchange prices, EUR/t

  • Wheat 228.50 +2.00 Euronext · Dec 26
  • Corn 283.25 +0.50 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Rapeseed 518.50 −8.75 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Soybeans 410.45 +0.99 CBOT · Oct 26

Markets: Euronext rapeseed closed at about €518.50/t (Nov), weighed down by weaker vegetable oils and crude. Wheat gained €2 to €228.50/t (Dec), helped by EU exports of 9.21 Mt since July, level with last year. Larger crop estimates from US officials for Australia (32 Mt) and Argentina (23 Mt) keep a lid on prices. CBOT soybeans held near €410/t.

Ukraine: By 27 October farmers had brought in 41.7 Mt of grain and pulses and about 91% of the soybean area. Corn is slow, and some elevators now ask for prepayment of drying costs, so the crop could end nearer 25 Mt than 30 Mt. From 1 November Ukrzaliznytsia charges 12% more for grain wagons, and ships off Sulina still wait for weeks.

Organic: Bologna quotes Italian organic soft wheat at €335 to 345/t today, high protein lots at €370 to 380/t and organic soybeans at €780 to 800/t. Milan's latest list had soft wheat up €5 at €325 to 355/t.

What it means for buyers: For Ukrainian organic corn, plan December and January deliveries with some slack and agree who carries extra rail and waiting costs before you sign.

Rapeseed jumped more than €9/t in Paris today. At the same time, Ukraine's rail and Danube routes to the west are getting tighter.

Exchange prices, EUR/t

  • Wheat 233.50 −0.50 Euronext · Dec 26
  • Corn 284.25 +0.50 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Rapeseed 521.00 +9.25 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Soybeans 405.43 −6.56 CBOT · Nov 26

Markets: Euronext rapeseed finished at €521/t (Nov), supported by firm vegetable oils and crude at a five-month high. CBOT soybeans went the other way and lost about €6.50 to roughly €405/t, even though US soybean exports are running 81% ahead of last year at 26.2 Mt. Wheat (€233.50/t, Dec) and corn (about €284/t, Nov) barely moved as traders wait for news on possible peace talks in November.

Ukraine: From today Ukrzaliznytsia restricts some shipments to Hungary and Poland, and November rail plans can be cut where border waits exceed 15 days. On the Danube, low water means barges built for 2,000 to 2,500 t are loaded with only 750 to 800 t, and around 80 ships wait off Sulina.

Organic: Milan's latest list has organic barley up €10 at €315 to 335/t and feed soybeans up €10 at €770 to 790/t. In Bologna, Italian organic soybeans trade at €780 to 800/t.

What it means for buyers: If your Ukrainian goods travel by rail via Poland or Hungary, confirm the border crossing for November loadings now and allow extra days in the delivery window.

Rapeseed pushed past €500/t in Paris today, while Ukraine's wheat exports are running almost 40% behind last season.

Exchange prices, EUR/t

  • Wheat 234.50 +0.25 Euronext · Dec 26
  • Corn 287.75 +2.75 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Rapeseed 505.00 +7.25 Euronext · Nov 26
  • Soybeans 410.81 +0.41 CBOT · Nov 26

Markets: Euronext rapeseed gained about €7 to €505/t (Nov), helped by firmer crude oil and 2.8 Mt of weekly US soybean export sales, most of it to China. Wheat hardly moved at around €234/t (Dec), corn added almost €3 to about €288/t.

Ukraine: Grain exports for 2026/27 stand at roughly 6.2 Mt, 25% below last year. Corn is the exception at 2.1 Mt, up by two thirds. The overland and Danube routes move about 2.5 Mt a month and are close to full. Rail wagons wait 10 to 30 days at border crossings and around 80 vessels queue for Sulina. A merchant ship sank off Constanța this morning after a suspected drone strike, which keeps Black Sea insurance in focus.

Organic: Bologna's Friday list puts Italian organic high-protein soft wheat at €370 to 380/t and soybeans at €760 to 780/t. In Milan, barley is up €10 and soft wheat up €5 week on week.

What it means for buyers: Soy and oilseed positions are getting dearer, so it pays to cover nearby needs early, and Ukrainian wheat should be planned with wide delivery windows.

Waits at the Polish border have stretched to 7 to 9 days, truck rates are up by as much as 15% and close to 20,000 loaded rail wagons are queuing.
